I Wasn't Born Yesterday BUT...

Blog by Jack Clarke | January 29th, 2021

It has taken me some time to share this as I felt humiliated and "dumb"! However, if I can help prevent this from happening to some one else it is worth sharing.

I received an "alarming pop-up" from MicroSoft (or so I thought) on my PC screen indicating my computer had been infected with a Trojan Virus; a warning not to turn off my computer and to call the attached 1-800 number. Well guess what I did, I CALLED!

These guys are good and over the course of an hour they persuade me to allow access to the computer and then proceeded to bring on a technician (for a fee) who showed me how many viruses were there and how many failed attempts there had been. After, this just didn't feel right and we contacted our IT guy.

He confirmed this was a scam and other viruses/malware probably were installed. We needed to have the computer "scrubbed" and I spent two days cancelling credit cards, changing passwords and visiting our banks.

Don't let this happen to you! You can visit the link below for some advice on what to do.
